Northwest Kidder Middle School

 

President Joel Shaner called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

Stacie Detgen presented the Treasurer’s report. (Printed Report)

o       Please be sure that checks are made out to MSBOA District VIII- not the chair person

o       Site hosts need to save bills and receipts

 

MOTION by Kirk Gronda, seconded by Dave Gott, to approve the report; motion passed.

 

Kellie McInchak presented the Band & Orchestra report. (Printed Report)

o       Website issues are being dealt with

o       Mail apps and payments to Kellie, not Kirk Gronda

 

MOTION by Kevin Culling, seconded by Paul Bickel, to approve the report; motion passed.

 

Melissa Marks presented the HS Solo & Ensemble report. (Printed Report)

o       Email Melissa your late entries ASAP

o       Let Melissa know any scheduling problems

o       Make 2 copies of your invoice

Blake Driver presented the MS Honors Band report. (Printed report)

o       Student app and general info available tonight

o       MPs emailed auditions will also be accepted

o       Okemos is hosting

o       Extra copies of the etudes are here tonight also

 

Joel Shaner presented the Jazz report for David Larzelere. (Printed report)

o       Schedules will be mailed out once titles are received

 

Sheri Powers presented the Festival Improvements report. (No Printed report)

o       Committee meets on Saturday

 

Nathan Heim presented the Computer/Technology report (No Printed report)

o       Encouraged to attend technology workshop at MMC

 

Kellie McInchak presented the Elem/Mus Ed. Workshop report for Joe McInchak. (No Printed report)

o       The workshop was cancelled

 

Jason Cunningham presented the Youth Arts Festival report. (Printed report)

o       Auditions for the soloists are April 11, not April 8 at CMU

o       Discussion on high cost to students

o       Workers are needed

 

Chris Rupp presented the Medals report. (No printed report)

o       Medals and plaques will be here at the spring meeting

 

Joel Shaner presented the Member Emeritus report for Sherry Dopp. (No printed report)

Commissioning report (No printed report)

o       No report

o       John Moss is feeling better

 

Kevin Culling present the Website report. (No printed report)

o       We can’t update the website because its hosted by MSBOA

o       Kevin has investigated another host

o       Discussion of possibilities and benefits

o       Email Kevin with website suggestions

o       Our new website is: msboa8.com

 

 Motion made by Tania Dupuis, second by Melissa Marks to switch website host.   Motion passed

 

Joel Shaner presented the All-state report. (Printed report)

o       Music is going out this week.

o       Discussion of what type of rubric is used to evaluate the students to help in preparation

o       More unified way of recording to fairly evaluate tone quality in regards to distance from microphone

o       Discussion of rules

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

o   Honors Band audition music copyright regulations

§        Suggestion to use the same books that are used for All-State

 

   Motion made by Tania, second by Christina Jordon to adopt the All-State honors band audition music to use for District Middle School Honors Band next year.  Motion rescinded.

 

§        Suggestion to create (compose) our own music; research costs

NEW BUSINESS

o   Proposed calendar for 2008-2009

§        Notice B&O weekends- Discussion

 

   Motion made by Jane Church, second by Kirk Gronda, to approve proposed calendar.  Motion passes.

 

Motion made by Paul Bickel, second by Amber McRay, to change wording to “B&O Festival” for both weekends.  Motion Passes.

 

o   Request from State Office to align adjudicator and mileage rates

§        State mileage rates are much lower

§        Discussion- we should keep our own rates

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

o   S&E system will only recognize 15 events per accompanist

o   Jackson High is hosting State Jazz Festival on April 9

o   Stacie Detgen is a Teacher of the Year nominee.

o   Janice Peterson from Marquette has done an outstanding job as a UP String Teacher.
