MSBOA-District 8

President’s Report – Monday, Sept. 24, 2007

Thank you for the opportunity to once again serve MSBOA.  I have always looked forward to meetings with MSBOA because of you-our membership.  These connections are very important and necessary to our professional and personal happiness.  My goal will be to get the business done in a timely manner, so we have plenty of time to talk and share.

That aside, here are some points you can be thinking about this year:

  • Hopefully by now, your membership information has been processed, deadline was Sept 22, 2007
  • All State Honors Bands and Orchestras…information on the state web page, and deadline for signing up auditions is October 1.  Audition weekend will be Nov. 2 and 3 at ?………... PS, we need people to sign up to help record the rooms.  It’s a big job, but with everyone’s help we can make it run.
  • New teachers, District 8 will pay for your attendance at the MSBOA Survival Camp.  Get registered then contact Stacie Detgen.
  • Become an adjudicator, even if you never judge- the training session is worth it’s weight in gold.  This fall it is S/E festival training on December 8 at Jackson High School.  Deadline is Oct. 1
  • MS/Elem Music Workshop…Saturday Oct. 6 at Clarkston HS.  This is a great workshop, deadline is Oct. 1!  Get your registration form from the state website.
  • Watch our district website, read the minutes…stay informed and up to date
  • Make plans to attend the January Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, meet people-listen and learn.
  • Help our officers and chairpersons by sharing ideas and concerns before they get out of control.  If you have a good idea-Don’t keep it a secret!  Get involved, volunteer for activities and events!

A very good friend of mine and ours here in Michigan, Dr. Tim has said this phrase for years…I felt that this year when I heard it that it applied to me and my professional relationships.  So here it is.   “You only get back what you give away”  Friends, if you want MSBOA to work for you- get involved- it’s a great group of people willing to give you the shirt off their back or the music from their file cabinets.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone that makes this organization work.

Respectfully submitted
