M.S.B.O.A. District 8

Marching Band Report

May 7, 2007

Dear Colleagues:

As the year draws to an end, it’s time to think about marching band again! The 2007 M.S.B.O.A. Marching Band Festival will be held on Saturday, October 20th, 2007, at Mountie Stadium at Northwest High School.  Applications and director information will be mailed out in mid-August, with an application and registration fee deadline of September 25h.

This is a fantastic event in our district that showcases the fine work our directors do for the first several weeks of the school year. Some of the great things about this festival are:

1.       It always draws a large audience of supportive parents, interested spectators, and students from all the performing bands.

2.       It can work as a goal for your marching band as you prepare your marching show.

3.        Feedback from three adjudicators are always in good taste, respectful, and insightful.

4.       It’s location at Northwest High School (the northern most school in Jackson County) makes it easily accessible and a relatively close drive to all schools in the district.

We’ve pushed this event back another week to accommodate some other marching band events happening as well as the delayed start to the school year. I appreciate all the suggestion I received about this!

I would again like to thank Sandy Atkins for her help putting together the 2006 Marching Band Festival, and I look forward to seeking her help as we plan this next fall’s festival. Northwest High School is proud to have the opportunity to host the 2007 Festival, and we look forward to receiving applications later this summer.

Best wishes to you and your students during the final weeks of the school year.

Respectfully submitted,
