The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association has been serving the instrumental music teachers
and students of our State for over 75 years. MSBOA proudly represents over 1,200 public, parochial and
private schools and over 1,600 instrumental music teachers in Michigan.
The Association is split into 16 geographical Districts. This website is for members of District VIII,
the geographical region of our state best described as south-central Michigan. Our District extends to
the southern border of the state, north to the Lansing area, west to the edge of Battle Creek and east to
include the towns of Adrian and Tecumseh. The two major cities in the district are Lansing and Jackson.
MSBOA District 8 hosts a number of Festivals throughout the school year and also sponsors a Middle School
Honors Band. These Festivals include: two Middle School Solo and Ensemble Festivals, one High School Solo and
Ensemble Festival, Band and Orchestra Festivals and a Jazz Festival. Our member schools send many students and
groups to State Festivals, the All–State Band and Orchestra and the annual Michigan Youth Arts Festival.
